30 Dec

Not feeling it today. My brain is tired and I can’t get settled today. So just gratitude today. Because I’m ALWAYS grateful for something.

  • I’m grateful today for chicken and vegetables in the oven. Food to eat for a few days. I’m grateful to finally be able to pull a pair of socks up to my knees without problems or pain. I’m grateful for a few hours of sunshine today to remind me that it IS daytime once in a while.

An eventful year

29 Dec

Two more days of this year left. It has been an eventful one for me. I started the year with a weight loss goal. I had a head start to losing weight with as I call it, “the abscessed tooth diet”. It works really well to help you lose weight, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Then I was accepted into the bariatric clinic and the diabetic clinic at my local hospital. I was on a fast track to not being here anymore and something had to change. I decided gastric sleeve surgery was a viable option. I also started a new weekly diabetic injection to help get my blood sugar under control.

Here it is a year later and I’ve lost over 100 pounds, dropped 3 sizes, and I’m starting to move better. I think I’m finally beginning to learn how to live with my new stomach. As for my diabetes? I’m off ALL my diabetic medication and my last A1c was 5.7! A normal person’s A1c is anything below 5.7, so I’m almost normal.

  • I’m so grateful I decided to tackle this journey last winter. Even through all the challenges, I know I’ll be better in the end. I’m grateful to all the doctors, nurses, & specialists that have helped and stood by my on this journey. I’m grateful to carry on into the rest of my life.

Its Friday!

28 Dec

Its the last Friday of the year. Its cold and rainy. Sounds like an excellent day to stay in and watch a movie or two with the boy when he wakes up.

  • I’m grateful my son had a great time away last night. He came home and fell asleep on the couch. I’m grateful to have the leftover turkey in a pot on the stove working towards turkey corn chowder. The house is starting to smell amazing. I’m grateful for rocking chairs. Exercise and comfort in one.

28 Dec

Just gratitude tonight. Then I’m going up and hiding in bed for the rest of the night.

  • I’m grateful the boy is spending the night with his foster mom tonight. We needed a break from each other. grateful to get to the doctor today. I’m grateful to get a ride most of the way there.

27 Dec

It’s the day after Christmas and a Wednesday. All the excitement is over for one holiday, but headed towards another weekend of mayhem and merriment for New Year’s Day.

I have a headache today. I’m calling it a “reading with 1 eye” headache because I’m doing everything with one eye shut. It’s not helping much.

  • I’m grateful for extra strength Tylenol from the doctor. I’m grateful for turkey leftovers for dinner. I’m grateful for the quiet day.

Merry Christmas

25 Dec

Merry Christmas everyone! I’m spending the day watching Legos and K-NEX being built. Sending you all best wishes for a wonderful day. Now to go back to sleep.

  • I’m grateful my youngest liked what Santa put under the tree. I’m grateful for a turkey roast ready to put in the oven for dinner. I’m grateful for all the blessings we have.

Christmas Eve

24 Dec

It’s THE day! The last day to have to keep prying eyes out of cupboards, closets, and other assorted hiding places. Some even in plain sight. All so that this evening, you can wrap them and watch them destroy to lovely wrapping job in the morning in about 3 minutes.

It’s also the last day that you need to keep shooing the cat away from the tree so she quits trying to eat the branches, wires, and lightbulbs.

I can quit watching Christmas commercials that make me cry. And start watching my son think as he puts together the Legos, K-NEX, and Bionicles all across the floor.

  • I’m grateful for Christmas and all that it brings. I’m grateful to have something for under the tree. I’m grateful for a nap so I can be up late wrapping and awake again early for the destruction.
